Ventilation System Operation

A healthy home depends on good ventilation — managing moisture, maintaining air quality, and keeping warmth where it belongs. We install and service four types of home ventilation systems, each suited to different homes and needs. This guide explains how each system works and what you need to do to keep yours running well.

All systems share a common goal: continuously replacing damp, stale indoor air with drier, fresher air from outside. The key difference between systems is how they do this — and how much of your home's existing warmth they are able to preserve in the process. For most New Zealand homes, the right system, properly set up and left running consistently through winter, is all that is needed to keep condensation under control and air quality high.

Quick tips for everyday use

  • Leave the system running all winter. The moment it stops, moisture starts building up again. Consistent operation is key.

  • Start on the lowest fan setting and only increase if condensation persists in the mornings.

  • Keep both fans at the same speed for best performance — balanced airflow in and out is ideal.

  • Underfloor heating users: you may need to run your underfloor at a slightly higher temperature in winter to get the best out of the heat recovery system.

  • Do not use the system for cooling unless you have an air conditioner running at the same time. On its own, it cannot cool your home.

  • Check your filter once a year and replace it when the screen reminds you.

  • In summer, set the Summer Max Temp so the system does not bring in hot air on warm days.
